Adventure Company, "Beercycling," Expands to the Netherlands in 2012

January 6, 2012

Portland, Ore. – www.Beercycling.com has announced the addition of new 10‐day cycling tours of the Netherlands, starting in the spring of 2012. These beer, food, and cycling inspired tours complement and expand upon their already established offerings in northern Belgium. The dates for the inaugural tour of the Netherlands will be from April 19th to 28th, 2012. An additional tour then follows in the summer, from July 12th to July 21st, 2012.

“The Netherlands is typically the top rated cycling country in all of Europe”, said Henk Wesslink, a Dutch cycling guide who created and will guide these unique new tours with Beercycling.com. “We have a beautiful small-scaled landscape, traffic-free bike paths, and a rising beer-culture that combines the tradition of high quality Belgium beers with the innovation and variety of the US craft brewers.”

The 10‐day tours focus on exploring the scenic areas of the Southern Netherlands highlighting local cuisine, beer, and offering opportunities to enjoy the rich Dutch culture and interact with friendly locals. The beautiful scenery will vary from the 17th century houses lined along the canals of the bustling cycling metropolis of Amsterdam to the windmills and tulip fields of the old towns in the Dutch countryside. Clients will visit a brewery almost every day (8 total) including the highlight: The holy Koningshoeven (La Trappe) Trappist Abbey. The tours will also include several tastings featuring beer paired with famous Dutch cheese. There will be an abundance of fun and beer education in store for the small groups which are limited to 12 people. The tour group meets in Amsterdam and includes 9 nights hotel accommodations, two knowledge guides (English and Dutch spoken), bicycle rental and repairs, brewery entrance fees, luggage transport, daily breakfast/lunch, and three special beer-themed dinners, including one inside a church! The Dutch landscape is extremely flat; therefore, this is considered a beginner/intermediate level trip. A complete itinerary is available at: www.beercycling.com/netherlands-itinerary.

“While not currently known as a common beer travel destination, the Netherlands is proving to be a Craft Beer Mecca that’s just waiting to be discovered,” said Evan Cohan, a lead guide in Beercycling’s other beer country of choice, Belgium. “There are almost 100 breweries in the country already,” he excitedly noted, “and that’s from an area roughly the size of Maryland”.

Beercycling.com is an outdoor adventure company that specializes in bicycle tours for craft beer connoisseurs. Each tour provides clients with an insight about the beer making process, access to samples of rare beers, and a feeling of accomplishment from a great workout. Beercycling travel agents advise all potential clients that a bicycle is a vehicle which requires alertness and balance. The company does not promote drinking and driving. Cohan stated, “pub crawls have their time and place, but true beercyclists understand the quality over quantity principle.”

In addition to the new Netherlands tours, Beercycling.com will offer four tours of northern Belgium in 2012. Dates, details, and prices for those offerings can be found on the website.
