A Piece of MTB History Comes to Interbike
September 12, 2011
Philadelphia, Penn. (September 9, 2011) - In celebration of Breezer Bikes' 35th anniversary, and the 35th anniversary of the modern mountain bike, Breezer is bringing a piece of mountain bike history to the industry's largest trade show.
Breezer #1 - widely considered the world's first modern mountain bike - will be on display at Breezer's Interbike booth #10109 from Wednesday through Friday morning.
With a frame designed for off-road riding and built with all-new parts, Breezer #1 was designed and constructed by mountain bike pioneer Joe Breeze in the summer of 1977. The new bike was a sensation and helped to inspire an entirely new sport within the industry, and a category that's grown exponentially since its inception.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to have the original Breezer, the world's first modern mountain bike, on display at Interbike," said Breezer brand manager J.T. Burke. "Some of us younger guys tend to think that the mountain bike has been here forever, but the entire category didn't exist before 1977. Can you imagine an Interbike with no mountain bikes? It's hard to fathom."
"I really love being able to show where it all began, and of course how far we've come - Breezer's 2012 mountain bikes are the most advanced hardtails Joe has ever designed. And especially our new 29ers, where Joe has put almost 40 years of frame design and geometry to work, and of course kept tubing the star of the show - be it carbon, aluminum, or steel," said Burke. "But none of this would have been possible without Breezer #1."
Visit Interbike Booth #10109 for the very special opportunity to see the Breezer #1, formerly housed at the Oakland Museum of California, up close and personal and to speak with designer Joe Breeze firsthand.
