Pinarello 2011: Think Asymetric

September 3, 2010

Sent to Bicycle Paper from Pinarello

Think asymmetrical: Pinarello’s motto for the 2011 season. Last season the audience was taken by the launch of the Dogma, the first asymmetric bike in the world; an idea which has revolutionized the way people think in regards to the distribution of forces upon a bike frame. The Dogma has paved the way forward for the following years to come. Brilliant intuition born after several years of study carried out in the Trevigiani Research & Development laboratories of Pinarello. Continual investment coupled with the courage and ability to break away from the past and undertake, with passion, constant improvement and the want to move to a higher level in the bike industry.

Pinarello’s policy of innovation has always been rewarded, one only has to take into consideration the fact that Pinarello has won for the last four years running, The Best Racing Bike in the World, awarded by Bicycling Magazine in the USA : the Paris in 2007, Prince in 2008 & 2009 and the Dogma in 2010.

The 2011 season shall proceed along the same path with its new models, both integrating and complementing the already wide range of rich high end bikes from the Pinarello Company. In 2011, Pinarello will apply their asymmetrical technology to its latest models, offering a much wider audience the opportunity to try this new way of thinking!

Paris 50 1.5

The Paris will make a welcome return to the Pinarello range in 2011, an important synthesis of the Dogma experience and the tradition of the Prince, which has given birth to a bike which will raise the bar immensely for the medium range of the market. The new Paris shares the asymmetrical philosophy of the Dogma and has inherited the most significant characteristics of the Pinarello jewel.

Built and designed with the SOE System of the Pinarello Lab, the Paris marks itself for its external imbalance. The EPS system is exclusive to the Toray Carbon 50HM1.5 with Nanoalloy Technology. The mounted fork is the Onda FPK, derived from the FPX1 found on the Dogma, maintaining the characteristic conified shape of 1 '1 / 8'' to 1 ‘_ at the head of the fork. Onda FPK monostay chain stay, asymmetric rear fork and Most Croxover oversized bottom bracket. Those with a careful eye will note, as with the Dogma, the absence of side cuts along the more vulnerable spots of frame and the rear chain stay. The Paris is marketed both as a complete mounted bike or frame only which weighs in at 1040 grams (for Size 54). As with all Pinarello bikes the Paris comes in a wide range of sizes allowing each and every cyclist to find the frame which best fits.

KOBH

Affectionately known as "the SUV of the Pinarello house” as it was born with the aim to tackle the more steeper streets of the great classics of the North, whose courses are as fascinating as difficult, characterized by pebbles and cobblestones coupled with an unpredictable climate worsening the situation even more so.

The KOBH 60.1 is parallel to the Dogma to 60.1; bringing the same 60HM1K Toray carbon fiber with Nanoalloy technology and the exclusive EPS system. It differs in geometry to its sister CenturyRide , designed in order to absorb vibrations and render a more comfortable ride, hence delaying cyclists fatigue during long-distance races. The KOBH 60.1 accomplishes all of this without compromising its lateral stiffness remaining equal to that of the Dogma 60.1. This is all possible by reducing the angle of the headset and saddle, lengthening the fork rake and expanding the space for the wheel mount for 28mm tires.

The result is not only a perfect bike for races such as the Paris - Roubaix or Tour of Flanders: this design combines maximum performance and comfort for the rider. The KOBH is also suitable for the general public, such as Granfondo riders, who require a lightweight frame with high performance yet "comfortable" for long rides.

FPQUATTRO

The Dogma revolution is available to everyone. The Pinarello goal for the new season is a medium-range bike with top level technology. Everyone can experience the thrill of an asymmetric bike, discovering the difference in strength and stability which a bike with this system has to offer. The frame of FPQUATTRO is directly derived from Paris, though it is made from 30HM12K carbon fiber, that of the FP3 (now out of range) guaranteeing an optimal compromise between lightness, strength and design. The asymmetry, the new Onda FPK1 fork, monocoque frame, Onda FPK1 rear monostay chain stay, Most Croxover oversize bottom bracket , all make the FP4 a small jewel of technology. FP4 is marketed as a whole bike offering peace of mind and security in respect to all accessories mounted by Pinarello.

GRAAL

A very special Time Trial bike which has become tempting to many, notably after the success of Bradley Wiggins, captain of Team Sky during his win at the 93rd Giro di Italia opening stage being the individual Time Trial, which took place in the streets of Amsterdam.

The speed of the Montello and the effectiveness of the Dogma provided the basis for the development of a single frame, perfect for delivering the maximum potential during a road time trial. Respecting the traditional time trial bike, the Graal has a slightly different geometry, studied in order to offer greater comfort and control while allowing the transfer of as much power as possible to the pedals. The asymmetry is inherited from the Dogma, however, the Graal allows a more balanced distribution of forces throughout the frame of the bike and is therefore not only light and fast but also stable. In addition, the Graal is secure when entering a curve and better able to absorb vibration and roughness of road surfaces.

Enthusiasts of bike technology will appreciate the innovative solutions applied for the Graal, such as the front brake which is located behind the front fork or the new wing handlebars designed as part of the frame itself; other details remain

invisible to the naked eye, such as the variable tube thickness designed to minimize weight. The frames structure was developed by the Pinarello Lab via the SOE (Simulation Optimize Evolution) system along with the captains of both Team Sky and Team Caisse d'Epargne, whom personally contributed to the development of a bike which is best adapted to their needs. The monocoque frame is built with Torayca 60HM carbon fibre 1K and Nanoalloy Anti-breaking technology.
