Remembering Kevin Black One Year After His Death
February 4, 2010
It was exactly one year ago today when cyclist Kevin Black of Seattle, Wash., was killed in an accident near a busy intersection while commuting to work. He was traveling south on 24th Ave. NW in Ballard when the driver of a white van pulled away from the curb to his right, apparently making a U-turn.
An avid cyclist and father of two girls, Black was a regular fixture in Seattle’s bike racing scene and was a member of Alki/Rubicon Racing, a local team that competes in cyclocross, road and mountain bike races.
Kevin worked at the University of Washington as a molecular neurobiologist and once pedaled from Seattle to his hometown in Southern California to attend his high school reunion. He was just 39 years old when he died.
