Riding Cross-Country to Feed Families and Celebrate 70th Birthday
April 2, 2012 Seattle, Wash. - Beginning on April 1, 2012, Patricia Hansen will spend 97 days pedaling across the nation to shed light on hunger in the United States and attempt to raise $50,000 to feed families in need. Departing from Astoria, Ore., Hansen will bike in 50-mile stretches from coast to coast, concluding her odyssey in Yorktown, Va., on July 7, her 70th birthday. The ambitious journey across Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Virginia fulfills her lifelong dream to be “cycling at 70 to feed the need.” Read More

Americans Ready to Take on the World on the Track

2012 Columbia Gorge Fat Tire Festival Canceled
March 30, 2012 It is with great disappointment that we have been forced to cancel the inaugural Columbia Gorge Fat Tire Festival. We received notification from the USDA Forest Service Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area that we will not be allowed to conduct the event this year. Breakaway Promotions started this project in the fall of 2011 and had submitted the necessary permits to the Northern Wasco County Parks (NWCPR) who is the managing agency of the land to be used. NWCPR was given control of the land in question back in 2003 and put in charge of the care and management of these lands by the Forest Service. Permits were approved in January of 2012 and Breakaway Promotions began the task of organizing and marketing what was to be the first Mt. Bike race in the Gorge in nearly a decade. Read More

Larry Kemp Memorial Ride April 22
March 30, 2012 Seattle, Wash. - The annual Larry Kemp Memorial Ride has been scheduled for Sunday, April 22, 2012. This event is organized each year by the Fischer Plumbing Cycling Team (formerly ByrneInvent) to help raise funds for the WSBA Junior Development Program. This fund was set up to honor Larry Kemp, a ByrneInvent team member and local racer, after his untimely death while cycling in Spain in 2004. We encourage the racing community to come out and join us to remember Larry, and to support junior racing. Race Report - Washington High School Cycling League Season Opener
March 28, 2012 The 2012 Washington High School Cycling League kicked off its sophomore season on Sunday, March 25, 2012, with a great turnout at Fort Flagler State Park in Nordland, Wash. Sunny skies and moderate temperatures were a welcome combination for both spectators and the racers after two weeks of spring storms. With views of Admiralty Inlet and the Cascade Mountains, the venue provided some great sights as well as great racing. Bike Census and Repair Training Cultivate Community Bike Educators in Cully
March 19, 2012 Portland, Ore. – Andando en Bicicletas en Cully (ABC) – which translates to “Riding Bikes in Cully” – is a group of residents from Hacienda CDC, an affordable housing nonprofit, who are interested in promoting bicycling for the health of their children and their community. In March, ABC organized a bike census – a survey about bicycles in Hacienda housing – to demonstrate the need for bike storage in their neighborhood.
