Road Racing
Carlsbad, NM

Course Descriptions: Saturday, 21st – Road Race: The course for all racers is a loop format (first lap 13.5 mile and each successive lap 12 miles). The loop consists of many rollers with the finish of each lap a one mile climb with a 350 feet elevation gain and 5-12% grade. Approximate start times are listed below.

Sunday 22nd – Road Race: The 62.5 mile course starts at NMSU-Carlsbad and finishes at the entrance of the Living Desert State Park. Course distance is the same for all groups except Men Pro/1/2/3 and Juniors. The different start groups are listed below. Both courses will NOT be closed to traffic. Races held rain or shine.

Registration: Pre registration is available online or by mail. Cost is $35 for one race or $50 for both races; late registration is $40/60. Online registration is at www.newmexicosportsonline.com. Mail a completed 2012 USAC Waiver and check to Carlsbad Velo Cycling Team c/o Jennifer Peters, 2516 Standpipe, Carlsbad, NM 88220. Money must be received (mail and online) by April 19th. Late registration available at Friday Check-In only. No refunds, no exceptions. No entry fee for Juniors 16 and under racing in the Junior race (but must have an annual or one-day license).

Check In: Numbers may be picked up Friday, April 20th at Best Western Stevens Inn, 1829 S. Canal, Carlsbad, NM, from 4 to 6 pm. Number will also be available for pick up in the parking lot of NMSU-C 6:45am to 7:30am on both Saturday and Sunday. One-day license $10/day. One Day licenses are for Cat 5 Men, Cat 4 Women and Juniors that have never had a USA Cycling annual license. All others must have an annual license.

Directions: Starting line parking (both days) at New Mexico State University-Carlsbad, 1500 University Drive located just south of US 285 on the north side of Carlsbad, just west and behind of Lowes.

Lodging – Host hotel, Best Western Steven Inn. Group rates will be available at the Best Western Motel Stevens ($89) and Fairfield Inn ($109). Ask for “Bicycle Race” rate.

Part of the New Mexico Road Series

A series of 10 races over 10 weekends. Overall calculated on 15 results, must do a minimum of 3 to qualify. All races scored separately, not on omnium. Santa Fe double points. Men and Women Cat 1/2/3, both Cat 4, men Cat 5, Masters 50+ men and juniors. Points awarded based on number of participants. Event identify at NMRS.
